Should I be paying electricity based on Time-of-use or a Tiered Plan?

As of November 1st, 2020 Ottawa Hydro customers will be able to choose between two electricity plans for their residential property. Since June 1st we've been paying a flat 2.8 cents per kWh for the electricity that we use. This is different than the Time-of-use plan we were all very familiar with.

Hydro Ottawa customers can opt between the Tiered Pricing and Time-of-use plans right from their Hydro Ottawa account. Here's a small video which will help you understand the differences between the two billing systems and may help you decide which plan is best for your household.

Please note the electricity costs used in 2019 may vary from those you've used in 2020 and will be using in 2021. The major difference is that many of us are now working from a home office because of the global COVID 19 pandemic.

Feel free to download and use the Excel Spreadsheet I have created to help you decide which plan is best for your family.
