Orleans Wants to go from Bedroom Community to Major Employment Hub

One recent study shows that about 80 percent of rush hour traffic between Orleans and Ottawa is from people leaving Orleans for work. The Heart of Orleans BIA is looking at taking Orleans from a bedroom community to one where it is a hub for employment.

Orleans has a highly educated workforce and many bilingual residents making it an area that should be sought after for employers. Many are also finding the suburb of Orleans more affordable than it's counterparts, in the west and south end of the City.

Orleans has great standards of living the only missing piece is larger employers. Most of Orleans workforce is employed by small and medium-sized private companies.

The BIA is hopeful that Phase 2 of the Ottawa LRT project will bring growth opportunities to the East end of Ottawa.

Phase 2 of the Ottawa LRT project has 4 proposed East End stops including Montreal Road near the Canotek Business District, Jeanne d'Arc, Place d'Orleans and Trim Road.

There's no doubt the Ottawa LRT will help relieve some of the traffic on the highway heading towards downtown but what we also need is to have major employers such as the Federal or Provincial government set up shop in Ottawa's East End.
